Understanding Dolomite
Dolomite is a sedimentary/metamorphic rock closely related to limestone and marble, but with a higher magnesium carbonate content that makes it somewhat harder and slightly more resistant to etching than true marble. Many stones sold as "marble" in kitchen and bath showrooms are technically dolomite, prized for offering a similar look with a bit more everyday durability.
Despite being tougher than calcite marble, dolomite is still a calcium-based stone and will etch when exposed to strong acids, so it needs many of the same care practices as marble.
